The delegation of Korea Electric Power Corp (KEPCO) headed by Mr. Jong Kap Kim – Chief Executive Officer & Director had the meeting with the Chairman of the People’s Committee of Thanh Hoa province and local related departments in the morning of 23rd October 2018.
The Chairman Nguyen Dinh Xung expressed his warm welcome to the delegation of KEPCO to Thanh Hoa province, and summarized the progress of Nghi Son thermal power plant which is financed partly by KEPCO. He emphasized the efforts and commitment of Thanh Hoa province to complete the work and tasks under the provincial responsibilities such as site clearance, dredging of the shipping channel, other paperwork and licenses, etc in order to secure the project schedule.
He proposed the KEPCO’s continued active cooperation with the local government to finish the remaining work and site clearance to deliver project faster. He also introduced other new projects for KEPCO’s consideration of further investment in Thanh Hoa province.
For his part, on behalf of the delegation, Mr. Jong Kap Kim – Chief Executive Officer & Director of KEPCO thanked the Chairman for arranging the meeting in the province. He confirmed the commitment of the Corporation to accompany with the local government to speed up the site clearance and implement the social welfare programs in the province. He shared that this is the KEPCO’s first project in Thanh Hoa province and will make the best efforts to keep the project on schedule. He also expressed his wishes of continued cooperation with the province in other new projects in the coming time.
The Nghi Son thermal power plant No. 2 with the total investment of $2.3 billion is financed by 25% of the consortium of Japan's Marubeni Corp and Korea’s Korea Electric Power Corp; and 75% of the consortium of Export-Import Bank of Korea (Eximbank), Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and other international banks. This is a build-operate-transfer (BOT) project for a period of 25 years. The first unit with a capacity of 600 megawatts is scheduled to come online by September 2019 and the second with a capacity of 600 megawatts by March 2020. Total electricity generation capacity is 8 billion KWh. The project will use supercritical technology in the world with high efficiency, reduced coal consumption and emission intensity to the environment of Thanh Hoa province and the vicinity, and partly contributes to the national energy security.
